With Sport Clips as a sponsor, I had the pleasure of working with Joe Gibbs Racing over 12 years on car design, Hero Cards, social campaigns, in-person events, in-store posters, and more. As well, I had the opportunity to create the logo for the Sport Clips Haircuts VFW Help A Hero 200 Xfinity series race held at Darlington Raceway.

The logo translated to sand fairly well and looked great on the side of the Camaro.

NASCAR on NBC

I worked with the team at NBCUniversal to integrate the race logo and Sport Clips logo into multiple parts of their NASCAR on NBC Graphics package. Renders of this integration are presented below. In 2021, I storyboarded the design for the Pylon Sponsor Takeover, worked with Joe Gibbs Racing to get a 3D render of the car running during the race, and handed to the NBC Creative Team to execute.

Driver Posters

Inside every Sport Clips is a spot for a poster featuring that season’s driver(s) and I’ve had the opportunity to create these for the last few years. It was a great opportunity to stretch my creative skills and keep up with the trends in sports design to keep Sport Clips looking fresh.

In addition to creating the posters and other collateral, I went on-site to Joe Gibbs Racing Headquarters before the beginning of each season to oversee our video and photo production shoot, gathering photos and videos of each driver in multiple poses and interactions, and even multiple angles of the car before switching to fully 3D models over the last few years.

Hero Cards

Hero Cards, also known as driver cards or autograph cards, are given to fans to showcase the driver, display race statistics and promote the race team and sponsors. These are always a hit at the track and we get thousands of requests from fans around the world to have of their favorite driver. Being able to design these and know that fans are holding on to them or getting them autographed by the driver is insanely cool and is a great connection between the fans, the team, and the brand.

Social Media

I created designs for various social media platforms that Sport Clips used to inform fans about new drivers, upcoming races, promotions, and more.

Car Scheme Reveal Teaser

Since we couldn’t attend in person due to the pandemic, the team at Joe Gibbs Racing shot video which I then edited with audio to tease on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook the reveal of the next scheme that Martin Truex Jr. would be driving.

Giphy

For the 2019 season, I worked on-site with Joe Gibbs Racing’s digital team to film Erik doing poses and reactions on a green screen. After the shoot, I took those video files, masked out the background, and converted to GIF for inclusion in the GIPHY service. These were available to anyone who searched for Erik Jones, Joe Gibbs Racing, Sport Clips, Toyota, etc. to use in their Instagram stories, Snapchat stories, or anywhere that utilized GIPHY’s service.

Since Erik no longer drives for Sport Clips, they were removed from the account, but you can see one example in the GIF to the left as I work to find more in my archives.

On-site Materials

Below are a few examples of materials created for on-site events, such as the race itself, an event involving a driver, or at the Sport Clips National Huddle.

Vertical pop-up banners featuring all the drivers for the 2020 season.

Vertical pop-up banners and 6×4′ cloth banner to brand hospitality suite.

10′ Media Wall for National Huddle appearance and autograph signing for attendees with drivers Denny Hamlin and Carl Edwards.

Car Design

I was lucky to work on a few “throwback” schemes used by drivers Erik Jones and Denny Hamlin over the years from either their own personal design schemes that they liked or from drivers that they admired. Additionally, we created an edit to the main scheme to include a phone and app icon to coincide with the launch of the Sport Clips App.
